Highway Cap Truss

The goal of this project was to create a truss that could support a highway cap for the Jefferson Street community in Nashville, TN.

The project included a report on the Federal Highway Act, the design and construction of a prototype truss, an analysis of possible failures of the truss, and comparisons between the original design predictions and the physical prototype’s performance. To build the physical prototype, steel members were welded and pinned. The finished truss was loaded to failure.

My participation in this project included all of the analysis calculations as well as a percentage of the welding.
